Caron Raymond is arguably Kiyah-Splashh!’s most well-known and celebrated coxswain. He’s a livewire, hard negotiator (vendors beware!) and a very good friend to many of us. If you thought you knew your beloved coxswain well, here’s a chance to know him better. And if you don’t know him at all…hmm, where in the world have you been? (lol)

What are you busy with these days?
Busy with work on weekdays, and wedding/housing preparations on weekends. I remembered those days when I always played LAN gaming (CS and Frozen Throne) on weekends – I miss those days, man.
What got you interested in dragonboating and when did you pick it up?
I wanted to keep fit, so I joined the canoeing club in school. Then they found that everybody is getting bigger and fitter, except me. So they decided to put me as coxswain. That was in 1993.
If you were in another club or a school team before, which team was it and what was your role then?
NJC, coxswain. SAFSA, coxswain. NUS, coxswain.
Could you share a memorable dragonboating experience you had with us?
There were many moments of joy, and many moments of sadness. Every moment had a special part in me. The prominent moments were always those experienced during races. Especially races in River Regatta, where your opponents start cheering after they cross the finishing line. Then I go up to the shore and found that our team actually came in first. This kind of thing keeps happening not only in races, but also in real life.
